Massless propagators: applications in QCD and QED

چکیده
We report on two recent results based on the evaluation of five-loop massless propagators in QCD and QED: (i) corrections of order α 4 s to the absorptive part of the polarization function in QCD with n f = 3; (ii) the five-loop contribution to the β function of quenched QED.

The phases of two-dimensional QED and QCD
The semi-classical phase structure of two-dimensional QED and QCD are briefly reviewed. The non-abelian theory is reformulated to closely resemble the Schwinger model. It is shown that, contrary to the abelian theory, the phase structure of two-dimensional QCD is unaffected by the structure of the theta vacuum. We make parallel calculations in the two theories and conclude that massless Schwing...
متن کاملNon-Perturbative QED and QCD at Finite Temperature
We present results of numerical solutions of Schwinger-Dyson equations for the finite-temperature quark and electron propagators. It is shown that both strongly coupled QED and QCD undergo a chiral symmetry restoring phase transition as the temperature is increased. We go beyond the bare vertex or “rainbow” approximation by applying the finite-temperature Ward-Takahashi identity to constrain th...
متن کاملThe Nielsen Identities for the Two - Point Functions of QED and QCD
We consider the Nielsen identities for the two-point functions of full QCD and QED in the class of Lorentz gauges. For pedagogical reasons the identities are first derived in QED to demonstrate the gauge independence of the photon self-energy, and of the electron mass shell. In QCD we derive the general identity and hence the identities for the quark, gluon and ghost propagators. The explicit c...
متن کاملHTL Resummation of the Thermodynamic Potential
Starting from the Φ-derivable approximation scheme at leading-loop order, the thermodynamical potential in a hot scalar theory, as well as in QED and QCD, is expressed in terms of hard thermal loop propagators. This nonperturbative approach is consistent with the leading-order perturbative results, ultraviolet finite, and, for gauge theories, explicitly gauge-invariant. For hot QCD it is argued...
متن کاملForces between composite particles in QCD
For several decades nucleon-nucleon interactions have been parametrized by phenomenological potentials. Substantial effort, employing purely hadronic degrees of freedom, has lead to meson-exchange potentials [1]. Attempts to take into account quark and gluon degrees of freedom with hybrid models have also been made [2]. Today, QCD is believed to be the fundamental theory of strong interactions....
